It was beautifully sunny and somewhat mild in Maine as I began writing this post, and of course the nice weather had me daydreaming about all the trips I’d like to take before I get married in late September. Part of my travel goal this year, I’ve decided, is to explore Maine more. I’ve just passed my 4 year anniversary here, and while I’ve seen a great deal of the state, there is so much more I have yet to explore, so many people to meet, so many things left to experience.
This July will also see the 1 year anniversary of the day The Lady and I became engaged. You may remember that we took an overnight trip to Gorman Chairback Lodge here in Maine, where I proposed, and she (thankfully) accepted. It would be good to go back for a few days, as the area around Long Pond is spectacular.
Of course, I have other goals in mind too. Realistically, I don’t think I’ll accomplish them all, but I’d like to give it a shot. One of my life list items has been to head west. Hugging a majestic redwood tree in Redwoods NP? Hell yes. Dropping a fly line in a crystal clear Rocky Mountain stream while visiting my brother in Denver? Uh huh. The Lady has never been to our nation’s Capitol either, so we’ve planned a trip to Washington, D.C. for this year too.
And vagabonding in another country isn’t out of the question this year either. Just the other day, I found a great deal on an 8 day trip to Ireland, which has me and The Lady scrambling for some vacation time at work. The trip includes airfare, hotel, and a rental car, as well as the opportunity to explore some of Ireland’s most beautiful spots. I’m hoping we pull this one together. A trip to the UK was our original goal, so we might push that one back a bit.
As always, I’ll intersperse all that with plenty of canoe trips, days on the river fly fishing, camping in Rangeley, and day trips all over the state
. It’s looking to be a good travel year.
